Certificate Programs

The goal of the HOPE certificate is to expose the learner to foundational concepts relevant to the field of health economics, outcomes, and research (HEOR). The certificate will be particularly useful for students considering HEOR career paths with the pharmaceutical and biotech industry, health insurance payers, and government healthcare agencies.

Competencies

Upon completion of the Certificate in HOPE, each student will be able to:

  1. Critically evaluate analyses of the economic and patient outcomes impact of new and existing medical treatments in terms of design, methods, and data sources
  2. Use statistical software to conduct basic analyses of health outcomes, health care costs, health policy, and health economics
  3. Articulate the policy implications of analyses on the economic and patient outcome impact of medical treatments to relevant stakeholder audiences including healthcare payers, providers, and patients

The sequence of courses may be taken over a four-semester time period or shorter.

Admission Requirements and Application

Applicants for admission must have completed an undergraduate program accredited in the United States or its equivalent and must have demonstrated superior academic achievement in an appropriate discipline.  Students who have graduated from a foreign institution must have an official course by course evaluation of foreign transcripts (WES) and show a test of English as a foreign language (TOEFL).

Applicants are expected to have academic credentials at least equivalent to those required for MS-HOPE program.  For more detailed information, consult the Rutgers School of Public Health catalogue.

The following must be submitted:

  • Official transcripts of all prior academic work;
  • Letter of Intent, including a statement of purpose for the application to the program;
  • Two letters of recommendation; and
  • Application and Application Fee.

Scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) may be requested if the applicant’s prior GPA is less than 3.0.
