Research

Research at HOPE

HOPE research provides academic expertise in the following areas:

  • Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR)
  • Decision analysis
  • Economic modeling
  • Epidemiology
  • Biostatistics
  • Health policy
  • Qualitative research

Current Research

We design and execute HEOR analyses alongside prospective clinical trials, and perform retrospective analyses of major claims databases utilizing modern tools such as R, SAS, SQL, and others.  Our analysts are seasoned specialists in budget impact and cost-effectiveness modeling using Excel/VBA, TreeAge, and R/Shiny.

We collaborate with scientists, clinicians, and stakeholders from industry, health plans, and academia to answer the most pressing questions about healthcare value today.  Our research is published in leading scientific journals as well as presented at national and international conferences.

Current areas of research focus include:

  • Aging and dementia
  • Diabetes
  • Depression
  • Ocular disease, including glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and cataracts
  • Infectious diseases and vaccine education programs
  • Blood products, including plasma and platelet technologies
  • Preterm birth

Current research partners include:

  • Thomas Jefferson University
  • Wills Eye Hospital
  • University of Connecticut
  • Johns Hopkins University
  • Drexel University
  • Brown University
  • University of Rochester Medical Center
  • GlaxoSmithKline
  • Cerus Corporation
  • Rutgers University Biostatistics & Epidemiology Services (RUBIES)

Among our partners is Rutgers University Biostatistics & Epidemiology Services (RUBIES).  RUBIES is a center within Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences and the Rutgers School of Public Health that provides statistical support, including design, programming, data management, and data analysis. RUBIES is a strategic partner of HOPE that provides advisement and analytical support from biostatistics faculty and analysts seasoned in working with healthcare data from primary sources (e.g., prospective studies) as well as secondary sources (e.g., large claims or medical record datasets). HOPE partners with RUBIES to conduct outcomes studies and, in turn, HOPE supports RUBIES by providing scientific support for research or models examining the cost or cost effectiveness of medical interventions.
